A Lenormand notebook

Yesterday I found this You Tube suggesting a way to make a little book to explore Lenormand cards. It's for beginners, but it looked like a fun thing to do:

So today, I found an old blank book with the first few pages ripped out, my Blue Owl Lenormand with verses that I hate, a glue stick and some highlighters and thought I'd make a start. But those verses were SO dreadful, I couldn't face them, so I cut out little bits of paper and drew my own playing card insets and glued them to the cards before gluing the cards into the book.

My work area (I don't have a table, so it was in the middle of the living room floor. I bought the bears at a charity shop today. Well! I had to. If you'd seen the looks on their faces you'd have bought them, too. Monkey has a weighted bottom -- I know how he feels -- and makes a very effective page holder.):

The cover of the book. (After all the playing cards are glued in, it won't lie flat. This is what it looks like!):

Title page (note ripped out section -- no point spending money on a new book for a little project like this! Plus that would mean I'd have to get dressed and go buy it. Ugh.):

Playing card insets in production:

A finished page before notes start being added:

And some pages with a few color-coded notes on (yes, that is a chocolate smear on the Rider page):

This was fun to do and I may keep adding notes to it, if I don't lose interest. :) That's how I roll. When I am feeling brave, I may do a few drawings on the left page like Makiel did...

Has anyone else done anything like this?

  1. I like the visual element in this setup. I have a little A6 notebook with for each card one page for nouns, one for verbs and one for adjectives. It works for me and it is easy to carry with you

    1. That sounds nice; I personally would never carry it around with me, plus I had this big blank book already, so that's what I used. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to draw pictures on the facing page or use it for more progressed meanings and notes. :)

    2. I'm loving this Carla - what a brilliant way to get completely interactive with the cards. I shouldn't have sold all of my duplicates!

    3. Thanks, Mary. :) It's been fun to do.

  2. That looks like a lot of fun to do. Had to laugh at you not being able to bear the verses, even in your notebook. And hey, it'll be great to refer back to over time :)

    1. If I follow my usual MO, I will add to it feverishly for a week or two, then put it on the shelf, find it in a few years and throw it out.

  3. You know, now that I think of it. I did see this video quite a while back and attempted a little notebook of my own. I got as far as gluing the images into the book before I lost interest. LOL. We are similar creatures, I am sure. Yours looks prettier though! ;)

    1. I have finished with all the images and putting key phrases around the cards. Now it remains to be seen what I will do with the facing pages on the left, and those 30-odd pages blank in the back of the book.
