Another court card today, we have Page of Bats, or Page of Swords. Instead of holding a sword, though, this page holds a pair of sunglasses and looks back over his/her shoulder toward a bat hovering there. One notices at once that symbols of the other suits are all over the Page of Swords: a ghost on the scarf (Cups), a pumpkin on the jerkin (Coins). The only thing missing is an imp (Wands). The bag is gaping open, but I cannot make out what is inside it.
I suppose the deck creator included symbols of other suits because, of all the pages, this one seems most in command of herself and to a degree of those around her. She uses her wits. The Page of Swords is known for playing devil's advocate, she enjoys debate and argument, and do to this effectively, you have to be able to anticipate the opposition. There's no other way to do this than to understand them. This understanding comes through observation. She's taken off her sunglasses to get a better look around her. She wears the symbols of the other suits because she can twist an argument to appeal to these audiences, at least long enough to get her point across. She's a clever little thing.
Even though she can think like the opposition, she can be quite unbending when it comes to her own attitudes. She will stand her ground to the bitter end when she has embraced a cause. She has a very keen sense of right and wrong. For me, Lisa Simpson is a great example of the Page of Swords. She believes she has something to say that is worth listening to, and she is fearless about sharing her message. To change her mind, you have to be able to convince her that is wrong. And she is quick to call you on it when she catches you using her own tricks of that trade.
What message will I need to share today? How will I need to be able to anticipate the opposition? May I remember to take off my shades before I start talking!
And on a completely different note, thoughts and blessings to the unfortunate folk of New York who are enduring a terrible hurricane. May all be safe and the clean-up be quick.
Interesting, The Daily Draw had the Page of Swords today, too... Love your association to Lisa Simpson ;)
ReplyDeleteI guess I see all those other insignia saying she can easily be influenced by the ideas around her, as her own aren't yet that clearly defined. I see the Page of Swords as someone who plays with ideas, experiments with them, rather than being decided...
Oh, I see her as having her mind made up...but she may not actually have all the facts. She sure thinks she does, though!
