Star Tarot, Cathy McClelland |
Let's take a closer look at this amazing Wheel of Fortune card from Cathy McClelland's self-published Star Tarot. The central wheel is much like the original RWS one, with additions. Working from the centre outward, we see an 8-pointed star, a hand, a rainbow. Radiating from the star's points we see a vertical red line, a horizontal blue line, diagonal yellow lines. The lines intersect and/or point to symbols or letters. Do you have any ideas about what those symbols are? They are a combination of Native American ideas, alchemical symbols, Hebrew letters and Golden Dawn notions. The companion book tells us if we keep ourselves centered in the hub of this circle, we will be better equipped to deal with the spinning of the Wheel. Makes sense! (Answers: red line=material plain, blue line=spritual plane, yellow lines lead out to the Tetragrammaton, or name of God, the letters spell TARO, just as in the RWS card). On the outside of the circle we see moon phases, and Native American power animals, then in the four corners, we see the four archangels, beginning in upper left: Raphael, Gabriel, Michael, Uriel.
I keep using the word 'stunning' to describe this deck, but seriously. This is a stunning card.
The cards are also HUGE. Here's a photo of the Wheel of Fortune next to a standard size tarot card, for comparison:

I know you're not a fan of the Osho Zen Tarot, but it says the same about staying at the centre of the Wheel... Now I can't wait for her to finish the rest of these cards, they are stunning! ;)
